The IPS Empress all ceramic system
is comprised of two unique materials. The shading technique
materials are made of leucite reinforced glass. The new
layering material (Empress2) is a combination of a lithium
disilicate framework material and fluorapitite ceramic used
in the layering phase of fabrication. This new material is
indicated for three unit bridges with the 2nd premolar as
the distal abutment and for anterior or posterior crowns.
The original Empress shading technique material is indicated
for anterior crowns, inlays, onlays and veneers. The new IPS
Empress2 material can be either adhesive cemented using resin
cement (Variolink 11) or conventional cemented with a low
expanding conventional cement (e.g. ProTec CEM).
